About

The WITH Project is an extensive study of women in triathlon history. It aims to investigate the ways in which women have shaped triathlon, and the factors that have contributed to and hindered equal participation in the sport by women. It takes the view that each person is the greatest authority on their experience. To understand the participation by women in triathlon, then, the WITH Project invites women from around the world to share their triathlon stories in whatever format they wish. Participants can share their stories in recorded interviews (online until such time as the Covid-19 crisis subsides), through survey responses, in recorded videos, or creative works. They can also upload digitized copies of documentation that is pertinent to their story. If participants give consent, their responses will be made available for public use through this digital portal. The personal accounts gathered through the WITH Project will inform numerous publications, including a woman-centered history of triathlon. It will also become a rich resource for anyone interested in triathlon, and the pursuit of gender equity in triathlon or sport more broadly. The WITH project will produce new knowledge to inform the endeavors of sports governing bodies, women in sport advocacy entities, and women in sport researchers and educators. Ultimately, it seeks to create positive change in policy, action and culture.
