Opportunities and obstacles
The Voevodins quickly honed their event management skills as founders of Multi-Sport Masochists, and inaugurated the Great Race in 1986, and the World Cup Triathlon in 1988. Attracting elite men and women triathletes from interstate and abroad, the Voevodins also attracted controversy and protest for paying unequal prize money to men and women, to an unequal depth.
The Multi-Sport Masochists also consistently employed Gold Coast models in high-cut swimsuits to flank the finish line of their lavish events, although in pouring rain at the 1987 Great Race, glamour gave way to pragmatism and rain-proof ponchos.
